HANNIBAL (WGEM) – More than 400 elderly people in northeast Missouri could starve if the Hannibal Nutrition Center fails to raise funds by the end of the year.
The organizers need your help to make sure they have enough cash to continue serving seniors.
The Hannibal Nutrition Center suffered from rising food, labor and fuel costs due to the pandemic.
They plan to raise $ 100,000 by the end of this year to continue normal operations. If they do not have the necessary resources, they may not be able to afford to deliver meals to the seniors in the community.
The employees deliver 300 meals every weekday and serve around 100 senior citizens in the house.
Executive Director Margee Tucker said some people rely heavily on the Hannibal Nutrition Center for their meals.
“For some people, especially for our home delivery, we are a lifeline to many of them,” Tucker said. “Not only do they get a nutritious meal from us, we check them every day, we get them help when they need it. But for some seniors we are all they have to eat for the day, and without us they have nothing. “
Pam and Roger Grebe have been going to the Hannibal Nutrition Center for a hot lunch for seven years. They said if they get to the center they will have a chance to socialize and have an affordable lunch for just $ 5.
“We come here because the food is good, the friends are fine, because what more could you want?” said Roger.
Pam said she hopes the money will be raised so that after a difficult year she can continue to come to the center to connect with friends.
“You just need company and company and you just need to get out and have a purpose, to get out in the morning and get dressed,” said Roger.
