A Leyland mom lost a staggering 50 pounds and reversed her diabetes after fear she might not grow up to see her grandchildren.
Ann Terrington started gaining weight after a hysterectomy failed in 2004.
The negative effects of the hysterectomy prompted her to start comfort eating, and from 2004 to 2014 Ann continued to struggle with her weight after reaching 28 and a half stones.
Because of her weight, the 64-year-old suffered from diabetes and arthritis and needed daily injections to relieve her mobility problems.
When her daughter married, Ann decided that enough was enough and she needed to make a big change.
Ann shared how she struggled to find a dress for the big day – and she was upset and emotional – and that sparked her weight loss journey in 2015.

She said, “It put me in perspective when I thought, oh my god, you look messy. I have to lose weight. My daughter said to me, mom, you have to lose weight because I want you to see my children. “
After trying countless methods and diets, Ann felt like she had tried everything, but then decided to give Slimming World a try – and she has not looked back since.
Ann Terrington realized she needed to change as she prepared for her daughter’s wedding
Ann said, “I’ve been in a really bad place. I would never speak to anyone, I would never go out and I just stopped going anywhere.
“I was as confident and embarrassed as I looked.”
Now she feels like her life is back and she says that she has learned to control her eating habits for the better.
Ann said, “If I hadn’t, I honestly don’t think I’d be here now.”
“My life has changed completely. My attitude towards food has completely changed. I live my life to the fullest, which I have never done before. “
Ann became aware of her weight and it kept her from enjoying her life to the full
The Slimming World team helped Ann on her journey, and without them, the mother says, she wouldn’t have got the encouragement she so desperately needed on harder days.
Following Slimming World, Ann didn’t have to count a single calorie on her weight loss journey – and still manages to consume all of her favorite dishes like fish, chips, and mushy peas. And she eats lean meat, smoked salmon and pickles.
Lynda Mercado, advisor to Slimming World Group in Leyland, said: “An important part of long-term successful weight management is support with behavioral changes.
“Ann is a total inspiration to the rest of the members of her Slimming World group and we are so proud of her achievement.”

Ann’s weight loss journey didn’t go smoothly, however, and she had to overcome many emotional barriers to get where she is now.
During her efforts to get fitter, she joined a local gym where she received negative comments from a stranger that prevented her from returning.
“One guy insulted me and said, ‘What are you doing here, you might have a heart attack, you shouldn’t be doing it your size,” said Ann.
This incident hurt Ann’s confidence and slowed her journey as she turned back to comfort eating. But with her husband’s support, Ann soon got back on her feet and kept trying.

Even as the pandemic made it harder to stay fit, Ann continued to exercise by taking walks and exercising at home, which kept her focused and determined to keep going.
Her determination led her to be named Woman of the Year 2020 in her Leyland Slimming World group during the lockdown.
Ann had wanted to go on a cruise for a long time, but had not had the courage because of her weight.
“I’ve always wanted to cruise the Caribbean and thought I can’t, I’m so tall and I don’t want to dress up at night,” she said.
But since she lost weight, Ann was finally able to go on her cruise without a feeling of insecurity holding her back.
She said, “I did it and I looked absolutely brilliant at it.”

Ann had taken insulin twice a day because of her diabetes, but she no longer takes any medication. Doctors have also cut her blood pressure medication in half, and she is scheduled to stop taking them completely in the next month.
She also no longer needs injections for her arthritis.
Ann is now determined to keep working hard to achieve her personal goal of wearing size 14/16 clothing.
