Pflugerville Nutrition is hosting the first fundraiser for the Pflugerville Animal Shelter since the pandemic began.
All tips the store receives from July 6th through Saturday will go to the Pflugerville Animal Welfare Service, as will 20% of sales on Saturday, said Denise Stokes, owner of Pflugerville Nutrition.
The shake and energy shop at 2700 W. Pecan St. will also host a “Treat Yourself Event” on Saturday from 11 am to 2 pm with local vendors Kendra Scott and Sugas Cakery to raise funds for the shelter. Participants are welcome to bring their furry friend.
“We are very excited to be hosting this event,” said Stokes. “We advertised it on social media, informed our customers who came over the event, and frankly our goal is to raise as much money as possible for the shelter.”
Carley Cardwell, chairman of the board of directors at Friends of Pflugerville Animal Shelter, said this was the first personal fundraiser for the shelter since the pandemic began in March 2020.
“I look forward to seeing people interact again because I really missed seeing everyone who supports us and having the chance to speak to them in person again,” said Cardwell.
Earlier in the year Cardwell said she went to Pflugerville Nutrition and that the store was perfect to host the event.
“I’ve seen her nice drinks online and I met and talked to Denise while she was shopping, and because she’s a Pflugerville company, I got her the idea of running a fundraiser there,” Cardwell said.
Stokes said she was delighted when Cardwell asked her to host.
“When we first moved to Texas, the Pflugerville Animal Shelter was one place we visited for the first few months of our lives here,” said Stokes. “It was a nice place for us as a family on the weekends. We promised our kids that as soon as we got a house we would get a dog because when we lived in a small apartment in Brooklyn we never had a dog. Ins Coming to the shelter was the perfect place to get used to the idea and responsibility. Although we unfortunately didn’t adopt from there due to allergies, we are so grateful for the shelter. When Carley asked me for it, I was so excited. It is one of the special places in our hearts. ”
As chairman of the board since July 2019, Cardwell said the shelter is known for partnering with local companies like Pflugerville Nutrition to host such events.
“We go out of our way to stick with it so that it is beneficial locally as this is a local shelter and it’s always good to get the community involved by helping us and the local businesses,” Cardwell said.
Since the pandemic began, the shelter has been able to host fundraising campaigns virtually via social media, including Instagram auctions and Facebook donations, according to Cardwell.
“If we had an injured or sick animal, we would create this fundraising post on Facebook to let everyone know what was going on at the shelter, what was our goal during the pandemic because we were still getting animals and they needed ours. ” Help, “Cardwell said.” My favorite thing to do is post a dog on our social media that has medical problems and we have it fixed, adopted and then the owners send us a picture of it afterwards and it really is a happy one End. Because we spend the money, “and the time with this dog that may or may not make it, when we see this beautiful picture of you, you are really living your best life in your new home.”
Cardwell said there are many ways to get involved with the shelter’s residents, such as visiting the website at friendsofpas.org or signing up for the newsletter.
“This way, residents will learn all about what’s going on at the shelter, what we love, and they can also email us to get on our volunteer list so that we can email us at an upcoming event can send “to those who want to help where they can,” Cardwell said.
