The Sansum Diabetes Research Institute announced that his strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned him a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity reviewer.
The institute also received the highest recognition, the Platinum Seal of Transparency, from GuideStar, a service from Candid. This is the second year in a row that SDRI has received this top award from both charity reviewers.
“The Sansum Diabetes Research Institute’s exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its competitors and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” said Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator, in a press release. “Only a quarter of the charities rated by Charity Navigator receive our 4-star rating. This will make SDRI an outstanding group of charities working to meet the world’s most pressing challenges. Based on the 4-star rating, people can be confident that their donations will go to a financially responsible and ethical charity if they choose to support SDRI. ”
In line with SDRI’s longstanding belief in making its work transparent, SDRI is pleased to convey the organization’s results in a user-friendly and very visual way, the institute said in a press release.
By updating their nonprofit profiles on both GuideStar and Charity Navigator, SDRI can easily continue to share a plethora of up-to-date company metrics with its supporters as well as GuideStar and Charity Navigator’s huge online audience, including donors, grantors, colleagues and the media.
In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics that focus on governance and ethical practices, as well as openness to its assessment methodology. These accountability and transparency metrics, which make up half of a charity’s overall rating, show which charities are operating according to industry best practices and whether they are open to their donors and stakeholders.
“It is important that our donors trust that we will use their donations wisely to fulfill our mission to improve the lives of people with diabetes through research, education and care,” said Ellen Goodstein, SDRI Executive Director. “Our 4-star Charity Navigator rating and GuideStar’s platinum seal of transparency demonstrate our good corporate governance and financial accountability to our supporters and help us better communicate the exciting initiatives of our organization on a global level.”
SDRI’s assessment and other information about charitable giving is available on the Charity Navigator website, www.charitynavigator.org.
