LAHORE: Changing Diabetes in Children has announced Pakistan as its 16th country partner, marking the start of supporting children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes in Pakistan.

According to a press release published here on Thursday, “Change Diabetes in Children” is being implemented by the Health Promotion Foundation to make it easier for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes to gain access to hospitals and clinics. The project is supported by the Ministry of National Regulations and Coordination of Health Services. The partnership has a clear goal: that no child should die of diabetes. In time, it is hoped that 4,000 children will join the partnership, where they will learn about living with diabetes and receive support and education.

Supporting a child with type 1 diabetes takes more than just insulin and equipment. Clinics, supply chains, family education, medical care and regular monitoring are important parts of the safety net to which the partnership is committed. With this new collaboration, the partnership will seek to provide treatments and medicines while increasing awareness of supply chain development to reach thousands of children estimated to be living with type 1 diabetes in Pakistan. The Deputy Director (Programs) of the Ministry of Regulations and Coordination of National Health Services, Dr. Samra Mazhar, expressed her thoughts: “There is an opportunity in Pakistan to improve the diagnosis and access to medicines needed by children with type 1 diabetes.
