KOCHI: Kerala is working on the fight against civilization diseases with a focus on diabetes, which is increasing in the state, said Health and Family Minister Veena George on Thursday in Kozhikode.
A lack of physical activity and changes in eating habits are contributing to rising blood sugar levels in the population of Kerala.
Curbing this will require a change in public awareness and belief, Veena said when she launched the Malabar Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (MRCMPU) Ksheera Karunya Hastham program under Milma, which provides financial aid to treatment of children of dairy farmers with type 1 diabetes.
“This novel project from MRCMPU deserves encouragement. The government fully supports it, ”the minister said of the project, which will benefit the families of all dairy farmers who provide milk to the cooperatives under MRCMPU.
In a video address at an event organized by the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), the minister said that the MRCMPU had linked a lakh farmer to 1,167 cooperatives that the union produced 7.6 lakh liters of milk every day.
