SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Virta Health, the market leader in type 2 diabetes reversal, today announced the appointment of Alok Bhushan as Chief Financial Officer. With over 15 years of experience leading finance for major technology and consumer brands, including an IPO for Yext, Inc., Bhushan joins Virta at a pivotal moment.
After a $ 65 million Series D funding round and a $ 1.1 billion valuation, the demand for Virta’s reversal treatment, which restores metabolic health and eliminates the need for costly drugs like insulin, continues to grow. Virta saw record growth in 2020 and now has more than 100 large payers from health insurers, large corporations and all parts of the government among its customers.
Along with Bhushan’s attitude, Virta seeks to harness this dynamic and allow the masses to reverse metabolic diseases.
“Alok’s proven track record of scaling companies that are category leaders makes him the perfect solution to accelerate Virta’s growth in 2021,” said Sami Inkinen, CEO and co-founder of Virta Health. “I am delighted to have Alok on the team and I am confident that he will have an immediate impact on our mission to reverse diabetes in 100 million people.”
Bhushan joins Virta from international beauty brand Charlotte Tilbury Beauty, where he served as CFO. In this role, Bhushan led the company through a period of rapid expansion and more than doubled sales over a period of two years. He also led the M&A process and the eventual sale to the Spanish fragrance and fashion company Puig. Prior to Charlotte Tilbury, Bhushan served on the executive team at digital knowledge search company Yext, Inc. for nearly a decade, where he helped develop Yext from an early startup through its IPO and listing on the NYSE.
“Virta solves one of the most important and challenging health problems by reversing the chronic disease epidemic – a problem worth more than $ 1 trillion in the country,” said Alok Bhushan, CFO of Virta. “Along with an incredibly talented team, I look forward to bringing my experience of scaling global technology and consumer organizations to support Virta as it moves into its next phase of growth.”
