UAE faculties nurses attend digital workshop on diabetes

Sharjah: The Sharjah-based Friends of Diabetes Association recently organized a virtual workshop for school nurses participating in the Super Hero campaign, one of the association’s initiatives aimed at empowering people for living with and prevention to raise awareness of diabetes.

The association is one of the health promoting organizations of the Department of Health Promotion of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah. The workshop was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP).

The workshop was attended by Khawla Al Haj, director of the Friends for Diabetes Association. Dr. Ilham Al Amiri, vice president of the association, a group of doctors and health educators, and a number of school nurses.

The agenda included training for nurses and coordinators on how to manage hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in children. Use of blood glucose meters and urine test strips to measure glucose and ketones; as well as how to inject insulin and glucagon. Participants also provided diabetic and non-diabetic students with health tips and advice on managing and preventing diabetes.

Following a healthy lifestyle

Al Haj said the workshop was part of the association’s ongoing efforts to maintain the health of students and encourage them to follow healthy lifestyles to avoid developing diabetes. She highlighted the importance of the workshop in improving the skills and experience of school nurses in dealing with students with diabetes and informing them of the new prevention methods that are helping to protect students from the disease.

The event also included a video about the message, successes and activities of the club’s Super Hero campaign, as well as organizing lectures on healthy eating for diabetics and ways to protect the rights of children with diabetes to lead normal lives like them Non-diabetic.
