KARACHI: Health professionals and medical experts have warned that teenagers between the ages of 13-15 in Pakistan have started developing type 2 diabetes and are advising people to return to an active lifestyle by breaking away from Keep screens away.

They also suggested that people exercise 40 to 50 minutes a day and eat healthy and balanced diets to avoid chronic illness.

“We are extremely concerned that teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 are developing type 2 diabetes in Pakistan,” said Dr. Nadeem Naeem, diabetologist consultant, gave a press conference on Monday after a diabetes screening camp at the Karachi Press Club (KPC). “Girls are more prone to type 2 diabetes than boys in Pakistan, but we are seeing an increasing number of teenagers developing type 2 diabetes in the country.”

The diabetes screening camp was organized by the Ehad Medical Center in collaboration with the “Discovering Diabetes” project at KPC.

Dr. Naeem said Pakistan is currently facing a diabetes epidemic and warned that due to the sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits, adolescents and teenagers in the country are also developing diabetes, which is extremely alarming.

“We used to see people getting diabetes in their 40s and then in their 30s, but now it’s very common in their 20s and even teenagers. This situation can have a serious impact, ”he said, adding that people need to reconsider their priorities.

When talking about fasting in Ramazan, he said that fasting is extremely good for obese people, pre-diabetic people and those recently diagnosed with diabetes in accordance with their health conditions.
