Free health courses and extra in Scarborough for Park and Recreation Month

Celebrate Park and Recreation Month here in Scarborough.

Take part in a variety of fitness and wellness events at Memorial Park held weekly in July. Sessions include annual favorites like Zumba, Yoga, Bootcamp, POUND Rockout Fitness, and Laughter Yoga, with a few new additions like Jazzercise, Country Heat, and Intro to PiYo. All courses are led by local instructors who look forward to bringing everyone together and moving, especially after the final year of social distancing and virtual events. Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Martin’s Point Healthcare, all sessions are completely free.

Throughout the month, Scarborough Community Services will also be highlighting its employees and all of our local parks, beaches and facilities on social media.

“July is the perfect time to highlight all of the stories, memories and experiences that park and recreation professionals make here in Scarborough,” said Todd Souza, director of Community Services. “We’re encouraging everyone in town, or even neighboring towns, to join us in creating their own park and recreational story this July!” Follow the Scarborough Community Services Facebook page for updates.

America has celebrated July as the country’s official park and recreation month since 1985. Park and Recreation Month, established by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), specifically highlights the vital and vital role of local park and recreation professionals like our Scarborough community services in helping to build stronger, more dynamic and resilient communities in the build all over the country.

Parks are at the center of so many experiences and memories – moments that park and leisure professionals make possible. Our local parks are often our first experiences in nature, our introduction to a favorite hobby or physical activity. They are places to meet with friends and family, places to celebrate the special moments in life, places of relaxation and healing, places that connect us to important community services, and much more.
