AHMEDABAD: Javelin thrower and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra visited a school in Gujarat’s city of Ahmedabad on Saturday to start a national mission where renowned athletes visit schools in the country to teach students the importance of a balanced diet, fitness and exercise.
Chopra attended the Sanskardham School here and interacted with students from 75 different schools who had gathered there as part of the initiative, according to a statement from the Gujarat government.

The outreach initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls for all Olympians and Paralympists to interact with students from 75 schools in two years’ time to motivate the young people to “Santulit Ahaar” or a balanced diet and fitness activities.
This initiative is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

In addition to raising the students’ awareness of the importance of a balanced diet, fitness and exercise, Chopra also answered their questions.
He described how he likes to cook vegetable biryani without spicy and eat it with curd.

“It’s a whole, healthy meal with minerals from the right mix of vegetables and carbohydrates,” he said. “Cooking also helps take the mind off the tiredness after a long training session.”
He gave tips on the right diet, the right fitness regime and also some important life lessons. Chopra also spoke about the Fit India Quiz, the largest sports and fitness quiz.

“I was surprised to hear some responses that the students gave me, praising their knowledge. You can reach even greater heights with the right discipline and dedication,” he said.
Chopra then joined the students in the playground and gave them valuable tips on various sports, including javelin throwing.
