CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – For many, exercising can be a strain. But for others, it can be fun with a few friends and a little encouragement!
“Group fitness enables people to push themselves. When you exercise with others and see them do things, you are encouraged to do things and improve yourself, ”said Linda S. Richmond, a certified trainer.

“That’s a big part of your mental and physical health. The opportunity to come here to exercise, exercise with friends and in an environment where you know you belong and feel accepted, ”said Sarah Bolyard, President and CEO of the YMCA of Kanawha Valley.
And with more than 40 different group exercises at the Charleston Family YMCA, there’s something for everyone. For that, after a year of separation during the pandemic, people are grateful.
“I’ve definitely lost a lot of business during that time because people tolerate the masks and do it. And now we’re back and people just seem so excited to get back together and covid off, ”said Richmond.
“After 16 months of Covid, we are all vaccinated and are training safely again. It feels great to be back out there and part of the community here at Y, where we love to train together, ”said Bradley Harris, a member of the Charleston Family YMCA.
