A 23-year-old fitness influencer from Mexico died last week after undergoing medical procedure to treat excessive sweating.

Odalis Santos Mena, 23, died on July 7 in the Mexican city of Guadalajara.

According to the coroner’s report, her death was likely the result of being anesthetized and a steroid she was taking.

The SkinPiel skin care clinic, where she received the treatment, claims it failed to inform her about taking the steroid.

According to local publication Plumas Atomicas, she was offered a treatment called MiraDry to reduce armpit sweating in exchange for advertising on her social media channels.

The treatment is said to work by using thermal energy to remove sweat glands and promises to reduce body odor and armpit hair.

Tragically, she suffered cardiac arrest after anesthesia and the clinic was unable to resuscitate her with CPR, reports the New York Post.

Odalis had posted stories on Instagram that she underwent treatment shortly before her death.

The combination of ingested anesthesia with clembuterol, creatine and oxandrolone was given as the cause of death.

Clenbuterol is a sympathomimetic amine used as a decongestant and bronchodilator, creatine is a natural substance used as a sports supplement, and oxandrolone is an androgen and anabolic steroid drug.

According to the Daily Mail, the clinic said it did everything in its power to save her and was unaware of the steroid she was on.

It said: “After handing over the signed form to the doctor, he asked [her] again on substance use and [she] orally repeats that [she] had not.”

The popular influencer is from the town of Autlan de Navarro and has often participated in fitness competitions. She had a following of nearly 150,000 on Instagram.

She was elected Campeona Wellness (Wellness Champion) by Miss y Mr. Hercules 2019 (Miss and Mr. Hercules 2019) and came second in two swimsuit competitions last year.

She also won the Wellness Fitness Juvenil competition at the Mr. Jalisco Juvenil y Veteranos 2021 event shortly before her death.

She also completed a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and is said to be in a happy relationship with personal trainer and nutritionist Victor Gomez Carreno.

His last homage was from the heart and read: “Your deeds in life, echo in eternity. I will take you with me forever briefly, it makes no sense to write here what I feel in my heart @odalis_sm, I love you. ”
