People who spend hours in the gym without getting the results they want, does that sound like you? If so, Ketan Mavinkurve, founder and CEO of a fitness organization, has some tips to make your fitness journey enjoyable and sustainable. How to do more by doing less.

Here are some breakthrough habits that can change your life:

Life happens outside of the gym

You don’t have to go to the gym every day. There are tons of other activities that allow you to get your body moving. During your conference calls, take a walk, go to the market, or just do some light exercise in the comfort of your home. If you do a little exercise every day, you’ll be amazed at how the tiny results add up in the long run.

Hara Hachi Bu – the art of eating

This strategy changed my life. I always swallowed my food, leaving myself drowsy and sleepy after every meal. It takes 20 minutes from stomach to head to say you are full. The goal is to achieve 80% fullness. How do you do that?

Start with a smaller plate, which will reduce the amount of food you eat. Block out distractions like phones and the TV. Chew, paying attention to the structure, inhaling a few times between bites. So how do you know you’re at 80%? After you eat, you should feel energized enough to take a brisk walk.

Count your steps

This brings me to my final point. Committing to work hard every day can be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know exactly what you are doing. Instead, set a target number of steps and achieve them each day. As Hippocrates said, “Walking is man’s best medicine”. Start low and work up to a manageable 10,000 per day over the next few weeks. It’s challenging, exciting and motivates you all day. Don’t look for the 10 steps to losing weight, the secret is in taking these 10,000 steps every day!
