HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas (KWTX) – A local gym offers a different take on fitness for keeping people sticking to their New Year fitness resolutions.
Elizabeth Bobé opened Elevate Fitness in Harker Heights in November 2021. The gym offers bungee and trampoline fitness, which has gained international popularity in recent years.
The guests are clamped in a series of bungees depending on their weight. Then the instructors lead the class on several workouts, including squats, jumping jacks, and burpees.
Bobé said she always struggled to exercise consistently, so she wanted to bring bungee and trampoline fitness to the arena in a fun way to encourage people to be committed to their health and fitness.
“Usually people say ‘oh my god it’s fun’ and I don’t think people expect it to be as much training as it really is,” said Bobé.
Contrary to what some might think, Bobé said the bungees don’t do all the work. Instead, they relieve people’s joints.
“We’ve had quite a few women in their 60s who would come here doing bungee burpees and it’s just amazing to watch them work it out and we had a lot of people saying ‘hey, I have arthritis’ or one Injury “and they find that they can do a lot more in the bungees.”
Bobé and her crew also incorporate trampolines into the training. They run sprint courses, do pull-ups and other training sessions on the trampoline.
“It’s good, but it’s also fun, so I think it’s the perfect camouflage exercise,” said Bobé. “So if the initial ‘New Year let’s go’ wears off, then what will make you come back? Was it fun? Was it effective? “
The gym offers classes at different times of the day. Here you can register.
