Most people don’t get the results they want from exercising because of a “lack of scientific information” about health in popular media, including social media, says fitness entrepreneur Jitendra Chouksey in a new book.

In Lose Fat, Get Fittr: The Simple Science of Staying Healthy for Life, Chouksey shares his fitness training experiences as he introduces readers to the basics and advances in physical transformation.

“There is a huge shortage of scientific information in popular media, and unfortunately this is the first place people turn to when they decide to get fit. Social media is no better. Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube are being driven by fitness -Influencers who sell everything from fashion diets to magical supplements, “writes Chouksey, founder of Fittr, an online fitness and nutrition community.

“Even those who have exercise videos seem to be more interested in bending down in front of the camera than they are in actual fitness science. Those who have good content and talk about science are in the minority. Apparently science isn’t sexy enough, “he adds.

The Pune fitness entrepreneur describes science as a “friend who wants to help you” while he describes fitness myths as “thugs who attack you in a dark alley, beat you and run away with your money and dignity”.

“Newspapers and mainstream media are still the biggest peddlers of such myths. Sensational things end up selling. Who cares if people end up ruining their health while someone is making money?” he claims.

In the Rupa Publications book, Chouksey also discusses scientific issues critical to fitness and health while explaining concepts of nutritional elements, differences in “weight loss and fat loss”, behavioral changes, and the debunking of myths that are gaining popularity over time “Well, my sincere hope is that after you finish reading this book and applying the knowledge in your own life, you will do your part in spreading the science and helping others take the first step towards one to make life fitter, “he writes. The book, which was recently published, has a foreword by actor Suniel Shetty.
