Stefanos Tsitsipas’ fitness trainer Christos Fiotakis slammed the treatment at the Tokyo Olympics. “We put 3 people on a 20 square meter flat bed,” said Fiotakis on Tennishead. “We didn’t even have a TV to watch the games!
“While the US and the UK and a few other countries had PlayStations and huge apartments with big windows, private gyms, wattbikes and cafe lounges.” Fiotakis claimed they had problems with some basic things like sorting laundry.
“90% of the organizational staff didn’t speak English, so it was a mess getting things sorted,” Fiotakis said. “Laundry was a mess; Losing clothes and waiting in line for hours to sort things out ”.
But it wasn’t all for Fiotakis and Tsitsipas
“On the day Tsitsipas played the third round against Humbert (July 27th), they reported to me at two in the morning that I was in close contact on my flight from Frankfurt on July 19th,” revealed Fiotakis.
“There were members from Italy and Germany as well as many other athletes on the same flight. “I was asked to isolate myself even though I had been in Japan for nine days and had nine negative tests. I had to do a PCR test so I could watch Tsitsipas play and I was told to warm up [him] via video call.
“The PCR took forever, but it was negative, finally at 1 p.m. I was told that I was okay to go to the stadium, but by car with an escort and not by bus. “So I didn’t want to coach Stefanos and follow the routine and talk to him before the game.
“I arrived at 2pm, an hour after the game started, and was accompanied by six health workers like a criminal sitting alone in the sun. “Besides, I hadn’t eaten because I was in quarantine from 7 a.m. onwards.
So they didn’t let me have any contact with the rest of the team. ”Tsitsipas suffered a shocking knockout loss in the round of 16 against Ugo Humbert.
