FORT CARSON, Colorado – One place where activity has increased is fitness centers as the country has remained open after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fitness centers at the Post are no exception as their patronage has increased with soldiers and family members ready to resume their normal exercise routines and, in some cases, shed the extra pounds from the pandemic. As the population increases their fitness goals, the post-fitness center staff are looking for ways to meet the community’s fitness needs.

Didi Tavarez-DeLarosa, a staff member and fitness trainer at the Waller Fitness Center, ran a CrossFit training program before the pandemic that attracted a lot of people. The CrossFit program was one of the most successful events, with the annual Hambone competition being the most popular each spring. Tavarez-DeLarosa has recently increased the number of CrossFit classes and will add Olympic weightlifting classes to the center’s schedule.
Currently, CrossFit classes are offered in the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:45 AM and Tuesday and Thursday at 5:15 PM. The Olympic Lifting class takes place Wednesday evening at 5:15 p.m. and lasts for an hour and 15 minute class. The course focuses on teaching people lifting techniques.
“We will ensure this course is targeted at beginners to experienced athletes so that everyone can get the maximum benefit from it,” said Tavarez-DeLarosa. “The course is $ 3 per session, or attendees can get a brochure for $ 30, which gives them 11 courses for the price of 10. First we will limit the course to 10 people per course and then see what adjustments we need to make in the future. “
