CONTINUOUS GLUCOSE MONITORING FROM ABBOTT

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) promises to relieve people with diabetes from the pain of routine finger pricks and give them access to accurate and comprehensive glucose results.

This is offered by Abbott in the Philippines through its FreeStyle Libre system, which allows users and clinicians to remotely access glucose data to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

The FreeStyle Libre Sensor measures glucose in the interstitial fluid every minute through a small (5.5 mm long) filament that is inserted just under the skin and held in place with a small adhesive pad. A quick scan of the sensor with a reader provides a real-time glucose reading and a detailed picture of a person’s glucose level.

Visit the Abbott website for more information.

NOVO NORDISK STARTS TREATMENT FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES

Novo Nordisk encourages Filipinos to become more aware of the risks associated with type 2 diabetes and available treatment options.

The company has introduced a weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The drug has been studied in over 10,000 type 2 diabetics worldwide and has shown greater reductions in blood sugar levels and body weight compared to other commonly used treatments.

Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, stimulates insulin release (a hormone made by the pancreas that regulates the amount of sugar in the blood) and suppresses the release of glucagon (a hormone that causes the liver to add sugar to the blood To release blood) appetite and food intake.

It also reduces cardiovascular risk by modifying arteriosclerosis progression (the accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries), lowering blood pressure, lipid levels, and weight.

The once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist is a prescribed drug and should not be taken without consulting your doctor. Patients are advised to speak to a doctor or qualified health care provider about their condition before taking any medication to get a proper assessment and diagnosis.

Please visit the Novo Nordisk website and Facebook page for more information.

TELUS HELPS EMPLOYEES TO STAY FIT, ENABLES DISTANCE LEARNERS

Telus International Philippines recently held its Days of Giving (TDOG) Virtual Run 2021 which enables its team members to support distance learners while staying fit from the safety of their communities.

The virtual event, which ran May 1-31, will benefit World Vision’s Abutin Na10 campaign, a fundraiser aimed at supporting the Department of Education’s (DepEd) study continuity plan through distance learning initiatives.

Funds raised from these efforts will also be used to reproduce self-study materials and support DepEd’s Brigada Pagbasa Reading Remediation program.

With 2,343 registered volunteers, Telus has raised an initial sum of 740,250 pesos for World Vision, which will provide over 7,000 printed modules to 7,000 public school students in remote areas of the country.

The company is also donating P100,000 to World Vision on behalf of the top three site winners, in addition to sponsoring a student and P100 for each team member completing a nominated distance category.

Runners had the entire month of May to complete their chosen distance at their own time, pace, and space. In order to recreate the marathon experience, the employees were given a runner’s jersey and a virtual start number as well as a finisher shirt after completing the race.

The TDOG Virtual Run 2021 had four distance categories: 10 KM, 20 KM, 40 KM and 60 KM. Runners tracked their runs over the month using a fitness gadget or mobile fitness app.
