You Can Do Good To Be Good With Diabetes!

Have you been diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes? Does Type 2 Diabetes Run In Your Family? Do you care for someone with type 2 diabetes? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension can help! “Do It Well, Be Well With Diabetes” is a 5-topic, 4-lesson series designed to help treat diabetes. The series has helped many people in the past and continues to do so.

A new series starts in February and because of the grant the series is free! While face-to-face sessions are more effective, we offer the series through Zoom. Below are the details:

  • Wednesday February 3rd – Getting Started – How Foods Affect Your Blood Sugar
  • Wednesday February 10th – Are you eating the right amount of carbohydrates / physical activity?
  • Wednesday February 17th – Diabetes medication
  • Wednesday, February 24th – Celebrate sensibly with diabetes / complications

Each session starts at 2:00 p.m. You can join the series from the comfort of your home, office, or anywhere over the Internet. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, or maybe you don’t have reliable internet, feel free to come to the Hopkins County Extension Office and we will do it for you. This series is a partnership with Fannin, Rockwall, and Titus Counties, and Hopkins County’s own Sue Potts will host the closing session.

If you are interested, please contact our office by Friday, January 29th at 903-885-3443. We will provide you with a registration form and a link to the first session. We also have a notebook with the materials for each registered participant.

4-H sewing fun day

According to our latest 4-H registration numbers, the Fashion & Interior Design project is among the top 5 projects in Hopkins County. A fun event is planned for 4-H members.

  • What: 4 hour sewing day
  • When: Saturday, January 23rd
  • Time: Two sessions are offered to enable the COVID security protocol. Members can choose once: 9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
  • Where: Expansion Office, 1200 W. Houston, Sulfur Springs
  • What we will do: learn to make a toboggan run and a scarf to keep or give!
  • What to bring: sew scissors, tape measure. Optional: bring a fleece blanket for cutting.

Sewing machines will be available, but 4-H members are welcome to bring their own. Cutting boards and rotary cutters will also be available. Some fleeces will also be available. The participants keep what they do.

Please note: the tables are separate and face masks are available for those who don’t have one. Anyone who has a cough or a fever is asked to stay home. We want to keep everyone healthy!

To register, please contact the Extension Office at 903-885-3443 and let us know which time you prefer. If the event is canceled for any reason, there is a chance that kits of fabric and instructions can be put together for interested 4-H members.
