The Amazfit GTS 2e is a new smartwatch in the GTS range from Amazfit. Essentially, it is an Amazfit GTS 2 with minor changes. Most of the features are similar to the GTS 2, but how does it compare to the older siblings? Is it worth spending more on the Amazfit GTS 2? Or is it a viable option to be satisfied with the new GTS 2e? Let’s find out in our Amazfit GTS 2e review.
design
Like its older sibling, the Amazfit GTS 2e is very comfortable to wear. It has a 2.5D curved surface compared to the GTS 2’s 3D curved surface. If you look at it, you won’t notice much difference between the two. Apart from that, the smart wearable has many similarities with the Amazfit GTS 2. It measures 42.8 x 35.6 x 9.7 mm and weighs 25 grams without the straps.
The Amazfit GTS 2e is available in three color variants: obsidian black (the one presented in this review), moss green and lilac purple. It has a housing made of an aluminum alloy with a matt plastic base, which differs from the high-gloss plastic mirror housing of the GTS 2. Other than that, it looks classy and elegant in equal measure in my opinion. The device also has a water resistance of 5ATM (50 meters). It is the same as the GTS 2. It comes with a 20 mm wide silicone strap that is very comfortable to wear.
Classy, elegant and light
If you look up, the Amazfit GTS 2e’s display is exactly the same as that of the GTS 2. It comes with a toughened glass and a vacuum coating against fingerprints, but it lacks an oDLC coating. The latter is located on the GTS 2. Theoretically, the optical diamond-like carbon (oDLC) coating makes the display scratch-resistant and easy to clean. Despite the lack of the oDLC coating, I couldn’t scratch the smartwatch. However, I managed to get more stains than the GTS 2.
display
The Amazfit GTS 2e has a 1.65-inch display with a resolution of 348 x 442 pixels and 341 PPI. It’s impressive to look at and I had no problem viewing it in direct sunlight. It’s bright, colorful and easily visible both indoors and outdoors. The ambient light sensor adjusts the brightness well.
Bright, colorful and easy to see
In terms of usability, it’s easy. You move your wrist to turn the display on for 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, and more. It can be adjusted via the Zepp app. When the wrist rotate feature is disabled, you can tap the display or press the top crown to turn the display on. The Amazfit GTS 2e is also equipped with AOD (Always-On Display). It’s bright, but it hurts battery life significantly.
Functions and the smarts
The device is equipped with the PPG sensor “BioTracker 2” developed by Amazfit itself, with which heart rate and SpO2 are measured. Other sensors on board include an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a 3-axis geomagnetic sensor, and an air pressure sensor. There is also a temperature sensor that is not available on the GTS.

In contrast to the GTS 2, however, you cannot save music locally with the Amazfit GTS 2e. In addition, WiFi 2.4 GHz is missing, but the connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.0. I didn’t have any connection problems and the device was constantly connected to my smartphone.
You get voice controls that are easy to set up and activate. These are useful when you are wearing gloves or cannot navigate the touchscreen. In my use, the device only understood the commands when you are in a quiet environment.
The Amazfit GTS 2e comes with a handful of native apps. You cannot download Morem and the notifications are also unworkable. It lacks a speaker that is on the GTS 2 so you won’t be able to take calls on the wearable. I wouldn’t consider it a scam though as I wouldn’t recommend taking a call on the GTS 2 as the speaker is tiny.
However, the GTS 2e will notify you of calls, messages and notifications from apps. The notifications for individual apps can be activated via the Zepp app. Each notification is displayed as a card that is not actionable but can be expanded. In addition, you cannot delete individual notifications, you can remove them all at once.
Amazfit GTS 2e review: Fitness Tracking
The Amazfit GTS 2e has 90 sport modes, six of which can be detected by intelligent detection: outdoor running, treadmill, walking, outdoor cycling, swimming in the pool and elliptical training. It also has features like stress management, which detect abnormal heart activity without movement. You will receive a rating between 0 and 100, with 0-39 for relaxed, 40-59 for normal, 60-79 for medium and 80-100 for high stress.
Many fitness functions on offer
As you walk, the face will go dark until you raise your wrist. You can press a button to view your running data: distance, pace, elapsed time and heart rate, and the current time and battery life. The number of steps does not register fake steps and is a completely reliable smart accessory for your smartphone. It’s not the most accurate out there, however, but it’s perfect for the price.
You also get Personal Activity Intelligence, or PAI, which combines data from all the different sensors and gives you an assessment based on your daily activity. The score is calculated differently depending on the age, resting heart rate, gender, etc. of the user. It is customized for each user.
There is sleep tracking that is pretty accurate. The device tracks REM sleep in addition to the light and deep sleep sections at night. It can also track your naps. The Zepp app also gives you suggestions for improving the quality of your sleep. It compares your sleep and wake times and your light, deep or REM sleep values with ideal values. That way you will get a score of 100, with 100 being the best.
You won’t get some features like menstrual cycle tracking and guided breathing. In addition, the SpO2 tracking function and thermometer function are not the most reliable.
The Zepp app
Setting up your Amazfit GTS 2e is pretty straightforward, and I didn’t have any issues with the process. You’ll need to download the Zepp app (available for Android and iOS) and create an account (if you don’t already have one).
Basic information such as gender, height, weight and date of birth as well as your target calories and your target sleep are requested. It’s relatively easy to add a device as well. The app will ask you to select the model you want to pair. A QR code will then appear on the watch, which you have to scan and confirm.
The Zepp app displays all of the data collected from your device. You can click into each section and see everything in more detail. You can also download a variety of watch faces. At the bottom there are three tabs: Homepage, Enjoy, Profile. The app’s homepage is pretty full. It shows you all of your tracked data like the number of steps, calories burned, hours of sleep, heart rate, sleep score, PAI and much more. The Enjoy tab gives you utilities like alarm clock, event reminder, find device, goal setting, dial plan, etc.
It’s a powerful app and it will help you understand the data your watch is collecting
battery
The Amazfit GTS 2e’s 246 mAh battery lasts for 14 days with normal use, with regular fitness tracking and constant connection with the phone. With typical use and the AOD turned on, it took 10 days. You can extend the battery life when you are not connected to the phone, but that goes against the purpose of a smartwatch, right? In my opinion, it offers great battery life. It can be charged from zero to full in two hours.
Amazfit GTS 2e review: verdict
At $ 140 or INR 9,999, the Amazfit GTS 2e is a perfectly functioning smartwatch on a budget. It is comfortable to wear, elegant to look at, offers a wide range of functions and easily lasts for more than a week. We can easily recommend it as a companion for your smartphone. If you are looking for a smart wearable with a round dial, then you can take a look at the Amazfit GTR 2e.
