JACKSON, miss. (WJTV) – Fitness Month continues as we finish a week of simple workouts you can do at home! Jacob Lanier from 12 News is again accompanied by Wellness Coordinator Adrianna Smith from Life of Mississippi.
After working on the arms and legs earlier this week, today we’re going to focus on the core. Side crunches are an easy way to strengthen our abs. Lie on your back with your legs straight. Put your hand behind your head, take one elbow, and grind up to touch your opposite knee. Work back and forth, meeting your elbows and knees over the center of your body.
When you are more comfortable exercising in a chair, raise your knee above your body to touch your opposite elbow. It will still give you a good core workout!
You can see all of our simple exercises of the week in the Focused on Fitness section of our website. Smith says you should do these exercises one minute at a time, but you should try to get 30 minutes of active exercise a day. This includes active walking or moving.
