A hiker who went to the mountains after recovering from a recently dislocated elbow had to be rescued from an ankle injury.
The Keswick mountain rescue team was called to the Birk Side location on the western slopes of Helvellyn on Saturday at around 12.55 p.m.
A team spokesman said the man descended with a friend in low clouds and drizzle towards Wythburn Church. His companion encouraged the man to take the walk to improve his fitness.
“Unfortunately, the same man slipped on wet grass and heard his ankle crack,” said the spokesman.
“Passers-by gave him some pain relief and called 999 to ask about mountain rescue. Upon arrival, the team examined the man’s leg and then splinted it to a team vehicle on the forest road above the church. “
The team drove him to the couple’s car in Wythburn, where he was advised to go to the Carlisle hospital for an X-ray.
15 Keswick MRI members were involved in the 2½ hour incident.
