On Saturday, Rijiju opened the Khelo India State Center of Excellence for Rowing Discipline at the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s Water Sports Academy in Srinagar.
He was led by Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor, J&K, Farooq Khan, adviser to LG of J&K, and Alok Kumar, Secretary, Youth Services, J&K, accompanied for the ceremony at Nehru Park in Dal Lake, Srinagar.
Rijiju announced earlier this year during the Winter Games in Khelo India that the Union Sports Ministry would open a state-of-the-art water sports facility in Srinagar. All the procedures are now in place and the money has been allocated.

Currently, the Khelo India State Center of Excellence of the J & K Sports Council’s Water Sports Academy in Srinagar will focus on the sport of rowing. You will receive an initial grant of 145.16 lakhs and an annual recurring grant of 96.17 lakhs.
This is one of the two KISCEs from Jammu & Kashmir itself, the other is the Maulana Azad Stadium for fencing discipline in Jammu. A consolidated amount of Rs. 5.08 crores has been approved for the two centers in Jammu & Kashmir.
There are currently 24 KISCEs in 23 states and Union Territories, each of which is focused on the Olympic sport discipline. This is an ongoing effort to bring existing centers from the states and territories of the Union up to standard worldwide levels, taking into account the overall picture of how India can excel at the Olympics.
