EDWARDSVILLE – Parks and Recreation Director Nate Tingley made three resolutions on Tuesday to equip the RP Lumber Center with 300 pairs of ice skates and multiple exercise machines. The city council unanimously passed all three. Councilor Janet Stack attended the meeting virtually due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the area.
The center, slated to open in May, will allow members and guests to rent the skates for public skates, after-school events, skate learning programs, and various hockey events.
The Jackson Rental Skates come from TBM Sales and cost $ 24,912.
A second, separate but related resolution calls for the leasing of fitness equipment from Advanced Exercise for $ 146,762, which Tingley told the council prices would be for 2021 and additional prices for 2022 would rise due to inflation. Treadmills, cross trainers, recumbents, an air bike, rowing machines and various strength machines – chest press, shoulder press, leg press – and much more are just as much a part of it as dumbbells, hand weights and weight plates.
It’s a three-year lease and the city will own the equipment after that, he said. He said that the free weights and selected weight machines would likely be retained after the rental agreement, while some of the treadmills, for example, have a shorter shelf life depending on usage and may need to be replaced and another rental agreement.
“The last thing you want is for two or three pieces of equipment to break due to a chip or a belt, and this may be an easy fix, but the one [staff] may not have the expertise at this point, ”said Tingley.
A related but separate decision would authorize additional fitness equipment from the same vendor, Advanced Exercise, for $ 14,797. Most of the equipment is in the large fitness center on the second floor. This area will be 3,000 square feet and is sponsored by Anderson Hospital. Some of the equipment is also allowed to go into the small fitness center, which is only 600 square meters in size.
The next city council meeting is on January 18 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 118 Hillsboro Ave.
