JACKSON, MI – AWARE, Inc. is hosting a virtual fitness fundraiser in April to support sexual assault survivors.
The Jackson-based nonprofit is hoping to raise funds for its efforts to eradicate domestic and sexual violence while promoting social change and empowering survivors, officials said.
The event takes place throughout April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Participants’ goal is to complete a 33.5 mile hike, be it up stairs, running, walking, biking, swimming, rowing, elliptical, skiing, or using a wheelchair.
The cost to join is $ 30 per person. The funds raised will be used to support the operational costs of implementing sexual assault services. Services include legal assistance, emergency shelter, advice and support during a medical examination, officials said. Participants can track activity on their website or connect to a fitness tracking device.
Everyone who signs up will receive a teal ribbon to show support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the first eight people to complete the 33.5 mile hike will receive a glow-in-the-dark take Back the Night t-shirt.
To sign up, visit the website and select the TBTN Fitness Challenge option. After registration, a confirmation email with a link for the event will be sent within 24 hours.
