The Knoxville Police Department will introduce a new incentive program to keep their officers physically fit. The department offers physical fitness tests, and if officers pass, they are given eight to twelve hours of paid time off, depending on performance. City Manager Heather Ussery says this incentive will be beneficial not just for the officials, but for the city as a whole.

“This program will not only give our employees an incentive to stay healthy. It helps the city with our work accident claims as well as all health insurance claims. It’s good for the city all round. “

This program builds on similar programs run by other police departments in the area as well as the US Army. The program was approved at the last city council meeting.
