PAOLA – The Miami County Cancer Foundation recently received much-needed relief to help community members in their battle against cancer.
The Paola Police Department sponsored a community-wide collection of nutritional drinks that the Foundation makes available to cancer patients. That year, the Paola Police Department sent a nationwide challenge.
The Paola Police Department this year requested the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Louisburg Police Department, and Osawatomie Police Department to collect nutritional beverages.
Jodie Livengood, President of the Miami County Cancer Foundation, praised the Paola Police Department and Police Chief Eric Jenkins for organizing the collection. She thanks the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the Osawatomie Police Department, and the Louisburg Police Department for contributing to the effort this year.
Livengood said the Miami County Cancer Foundation is running out of nutritional drinks to help local residents fight cancer.
The foundation spends thousands of dollars each year helping local residents fight cancer with nutritional drinks, fuel cards, trips to treatment, and other expenses.
Paola police asked departments and city officials to donate boxes of nutritious beverages such as Boost and Provide. Employees from Paola City Hall, Paola Public Works, and the Paola Police Department challenged each other to see who can donate the most drinks.
That year, that challenge went nationwide to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, the Osawatomie Police Department, and the Louisburg Police Department. This challenge was heard and taken up by local law enforcement in the county, who donated more boxes of nutritional beverages than ever before.
Representatives from the Paola Police Department, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Osawatomie Police Department, and Louisburg Police Department delivered the beverages to the Miami County Cancer Foundation office in Paola on Wednesday, December 1.
