The Fairfield Glade Lions Club, Crossville Lions Club, CCHS Leo Club, and Cumberland Diabetes Center are organizing the 4th Annual Strides Walk for Diabetes Awareness, held June 12th, 9 am-11pm at Centennial Park, Crossville.
The Beef and Barrel Restaurant, the Family Ties Restaurant and Venture Real Estate Services are corporate sponsors for the Lions Strides Walk “Fighting Diabetes Step by Step”. The proceeds from the hike will be used to send up to six students with type 1 diabetes to summer camp at Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children in Chattanooga for two weeks in June. In addition, funds are given to the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to help millions of Americans with the disease as well as local Lions charities.
The walking location is easy to find on Industrial Blvd. in Crossville. Signs will be put up to find the registration booth. The hiking trail is 1.1 miles. If you’d like to go further, please repeat the course as often as desired. There will be half a rest area with replacement water.
Registration is possible as follows:
• Custom Walker $ 25
• Student Walker (under 18) $ 10
• Pairs $ 40
• Family (up to five hikers) USD 75
• Dogs (including a Stride Walk headscarf) USD 5
• Super Senior (85 plus) USD 10
Registration forms are available from Fred Mundt at Fred.Mundt@bethesdalc.org. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please contact Steve McLelland at 931-250-3872 or Fred Mundt at 931-210-3100.
Companies and individuals have three options for taking on tax-deductible sponsorships for the event. They are as follows:
• Gold Level – For a $ 500 tax-deductible donation, a Gold Level Supporter can nominate up to 10 hikers and receive special recognition for helping promote walks and a half-page ad in the Lions Donor Acknowledgment book.
• Silver Level – For a $ 250 tax-deductible donation, a Silver Level Supporter can nominate up to 5 hikers and receive special recognition for helping promote walks and a quarter-page ad in the Lions Donor Acknowledgment book.
• Bronze Level – For a tax-deductible donation of $ 100, a Bronze Level Supporter can nominate up to 2 hikers and receive special recognition for their assistance in listing walks PLUS in the Lions Donor Acknowledgment book.
For each level, hikers should complete, submit, and return the Walker Registration Form as soon as possible so organizers can determine what to include in the Lions Supporters and Services book and how many goodie bags are required.
