Like many professional racing drivers, Daly began karting regularly at the age of 10. Four years later, he ran into a hurdle while going to the hospital after losing weight and feeling an insatiable thirst for water. “I didn’t drive that day, but had tests carried out to find out what was wrong with me,” remembers Daly. That answer came in the form of a type 1 diabetes diagnosis.
“It was a surprise, but I knew this was just another challenge that life brought and I wasn’t going to let that hold me back,” said Daly. True to his beliefs, he was back on the go-kart track less than a week later and in 2006 won the World Karting Association’s Grand Nationals title. He got into car racing in 2007 and has moved on in the sport he loves.
After finding success in both United States In 2015, Daly made the decision to focus exclusively on American motorsport. In the past seven years, he has participated in over 60 Indy auto races. The 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season is Daly’s second with ECR. He will compete for ECR in 14 of 17 events this year and will drive the # 20 Chevrolet during road and road course events. At the ECR team owner Ed Carpenter resigns to No. 20 for the Indianapolis 500 later this month, Daly will switch to the U.S. Air Force No. 47 Chevrolet. Daly is known for his desire to improve his skills through racing in a variety of disciplines. He recently competed in the USAC Midgets, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
