WINFALL – Perquimans Middle School in Winfall is one of three middle schools in the state selected to receive a new state-of-the-art $ 100,000 fitness center.

Governor Roy Cooper and Jake “Body by Jake” Steinfield, chairman of the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils, announced Tuesday that Perquimans Middle, CM Epps Middle School in Greenville and Northridge Middle School in Charlotte will each receive a DON become. T QUIT Fitness Center.

All three were selected to demonstrate “outstanding leadership skills” that will help their students stay fit, the governor’s office said in a press release.

“I am delighted that these three deserving schools have been selected to receive these generous gifts,” said Cooper. “Each of the schools selected have demonstrated their commitment to promoting the health and well-being of students, which is important to the entire state of North Carolina.”

Steinfield also praised the three schools.

“Three schools really embodied our mission to build a nation of fitter, healthiest children in the world,” he said.

He said members of the Governors Fitness Council of each selected school will be paying a visit this fall during the ribbon cutting ceremonies for their new fitness center. According to the press release, each fitness center is funded through public-private partnerships with companies like the Coca-Cola Company, the Anthem Foundation, Wheels Up and Nike. All equipment is manufactured by Fitness in Motion, a US company.
