People in Worcestershire can take control of their health using an online tool hosted by Diabetes UK to help calculate their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes UK’s Know Your Risk tool rates people according to their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. If your risk is moderate or high, you can refer to a local program that is part of the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Program for easy access to free health and lifestyle coaching.

Everyone who takes part in the program has the choice between app-based one-on-one coaching and group sessions. Access to the program is completely free for users and available without consulting a doctor.

Across Worcestershire, this service is offered by Liva Healthcare, a personalized provider of digital health coaching, and personal educational support from the nonprofit health care provider Living Well Taking Control.

William Bachop, pre-diabetic and user of the app-based program, says: “My lifestyle has changed dramatically since I joined the program. I reduced my HbA1c levels from 43-38 mmol / mol and had a weight loss of 9.5 kg. I eat less sugar and more fruits and vegetables. My wife is also part of my new diet. The best thing about my personal health coach is that I have someone who understands my specific needs. “

Russell Muirhead, Clinical Director at Living Well Taking Control, said, “We are excited to offer our proven, structured support to people at risk for type 2 diabetes in Worcestershire

“For too long, people haven’t been given the right tools to change their lifestyle and prevent the disease. We hope to use this combined service to treat thousands of people in the area who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. ”
