Sandra Daniels, 58, died Friday in a high-speed head-on collision on Interstate 5 near the U.S.-Mexico border south of downtown San Diego. Your car was on fire.
“We are overwhelmed,” said her 33-year-old husband Darrell Daniels. KFMB-TV in a telephone interview.
A retired naval officer said his wife had diabetes and went to the Balboa Navy Medical Center that morning for insulin.
“She got off the road and got off at the border, and for some reason she went on the wrong side (of the road),” he said.
“She never knew what she was doing.”
The California Highway Patrol continued to investigate the cause of the accident.
The accident also killed a couple of Detective Ryan Park (age 32) and Detective Jamie Huntley Park (age 33).
Park was a homicide investigator and Huntley Park was assigned to the Southern Division. They were off that day, but Ryan answered the phone.
On Tuesday, a march of police escorted the couple’s bodies from the morgue to the morgue.
