GOP strives for unity, even if it means accepting election lies
The House’s GOP, led by minority chairman Kevin McCarthy, is seeking to exempt Rep. Liz Cheney from leadership over her frequent criticism of former President Donald Trump. “We all have to work together if we can win the majority,” McCarthy said this week. With Republicans on the verge of regaining control of the House next year, Cheney’s treatment suggests that GOP leaders will do almost anything to rally the party’s base, even if that means that Sweeping events of January 6 under the rug and accepting Trump’s persistent lie that he won the 2020 election – or refusing to confront it – a campaign he actually lost by a wide margin.
