A sporting competition weekend is coming to Lanarkshire next month.

After fitness studios had to close their doors for a long time last year due to the pandemic, Gym55 in Hamilton is celebrating the return of live events with its own sports competition.

At the event, known as the “55 Fitness Games”, male and female athletes take on the challenge in front of spectators, with prize money of £ 1,000 to be won.

On Saturday, August 7th and Sunday, August 8th, teams and athletes will compete to be recognized as the “Fittest in Scotland”.

Gym owner Alan Strachan wants to redefine the way we classify fitness by challenging three main pillars: speed, strength and power in an event, all in his Clydesdale Street venue.

Alan told Lanarkshire Live: “The idea for the games came from having many events within the Gym55 club, internal competitions that were always very successful.

“I compete in functional fitness competitions in England and after having participated in several for many years I felt that there was a niche in Scotland that I loved in order to be successful.

“As a spectator, it will be exciting to see how athletes who train most days of the week and most weeks of the year are pushed to their 100 percent limit in three extremely grueling events.”

Alan says that combining all three in one event is a real test of a person’s athletic ability and that the audience will be delighted next month.

Locals will be welcomed on-site at the fully outdoor venue and Café 57 Bar that provides refreshments, along with Cooper’s Craft Butchers of Bellshill to deliver the food for the event.

BT Sport and Red Bull presenter Lauren Smith are also promoting the fitness extravaganza.

There will also be entertainment with DJ Steven Brown, who provides the music to keep the heart rate of athletes and spectators high.

Participants also have access to world-class rehabilitation equipment and experts in the fitness studio’s recovery rooms, which are located on-site.

Organizers say this is a community event that will be warmly welcomed by all of the local businesses that contribute to their success, as well as the people of Hamilton, Lanarkshire and the wider Scottish fitness family.

The event is divided into the women’s ranking on Saturday and the men’s on Sunday.

And there are still places available for interested female athletes. Applicants are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible prior to the start of the games in less than three weeks.

Alan added, “Competitions are generally everywhere, but a top-notch competition that creates the excitement of 55 games is very difficult to find.

“It’s great to give hard working gym goers the chance to show off their skills and hard work and give them the chance to win £ 500.”
