STATEN ICELAND, NY – Rep. Michael Cusick (D-Mid-Island) will launch the annual Total Fitness Challenge – a summer competition where students and their schools earn points through daily reading and exercising – Tuesday.

“We are very happy to be able to host Total Fitness Challenge events in person again,” said Cusick. “I started the Total Fitness Challenge to encourage our students to stay physically and academically active all summer, and it’s more important than ever. We have several great events planned for this summer. “

The Total Fitness Challenge involves students participating in activity days throughout the summer.

It starts on Tuesday with a soccer event in collaboration with the CSI Men’s Soccer Team from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Greenbelt Field at 501 Brielle Ave. in sea view.

It is open to all Staten Island students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Awards are given each year to the top scorer in each class and to the top earning schools.
