Aside from the recent controversy, Arnold Schwarzenegger is still a legendary figure in the bodybuilding world who can provide extremely helpful advice. He recently did this again and shared his tips for getting started with weightlifting.
As someone with seven Olympic titles on their résumé and a build tall enough to look like a futuristic robotic killing machine, it’s safe to say that Arnold knows his way around the weight room. In fact, he became known for using heavy weight training during his time at the helm, a technique that has changed a lot over time.
However, Schwarzenegger is still a man who can provide solid advice to anyone looking to get into the world of weightlifting. He did just that in the same issue of his newsletter that addressed the recent backlash he faced. Answering a question from a fan who wanted to know the best way for a girl to start lifting weights.
“I would have the same advice for you as for any boy!” Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote.
“But it really depends on what type of weightlifting you want to do. Do you want to do weightlifting to just feel better and look better, or do you want to get into powerlifting or are you inspired by the Olympic Games and want to start Olympic weightlifting? These are all good options. “
Arnold went on to tell this fan not to let people pull him down because of their gender, and that fitness is for everyone. He then advised that beginners work on perfecting the basic exercises, and don’t worry about anything fancy, until you master simple techniques.
“First of all, don’t be discouraged about your gender, because remember, fitness is for everyone. If someone berates you about it, let your lift speak for itself. If you just want to start lifting to feel better, take it one step at a time, start with lower weights, and really focus on your technique. Slow and controlled.
“Don’t worry about the fancy exercises you see on Instagram, stick with the basic exercises like squats, deadlifts, and presses until you master them,” Arnold continued. “After a while, you’ll see yourself getting better and stronger, and before you know it, you’re going to be deadlifting more than any of the other guys in the gym.”
Then he recommended anyone who was inspired by the Tokyo Games and the weightlifting shown there to read about the career of the legendary gymnast Katherine Nye. He then concluded with one final piece of advice, the Basically summarizes everything there is to know about starting any type of new activity, including weightlifting.
“Stay consistent and stay confident and no one can beat you! One day I’ll be talking about you in my newsletter to inspire another young woman to start her fitness crusade! ”Arnold wrote.
Regardless of how some people currently think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, it is impossible to deny how helpful this advice will be to the young lady who asked him this question. The bodybuilding and Hollywood icon is still one of the best minds in the world when it comes to fitness.
