IRON MOUNTAIN, me. (WLUC) – With 2021 in the rearview mirror, 2022 promises a new beginning.

“After the holidays, everyone usually has a workout with more resolution or is brought into better shape as a resolution. We’re just trying to help you achieve that resolution, ”said Rick Morehouse, YMCA Fitness Coordinator.

The Northern Lights YMCA in Iron Mountain offers the fitness program “New You in 2022”. Goals include completing 22 courses on the Y, swimming 3.5 miles in the pool, and running or walking 22 miles in January.

“Sometimes the hardest part of training is where you start,” said Morehouse.

Morehouse says there will be 209 courses on Y for January. Taking group fitness classes can motivate you.

“I teach the 5:15 am wake up class and there are six people who are always there, always cheering and motivating each other,” said Morehouse. “Sometimes these people just help you get into a new group, help you achieve your fitness goals.”

Morehouse says that while not everyone can swim, you can walk halfway through the pool 284 times to reach the 2.2 mile goal.

“You can not swim? You can go for a walk in the water. Walking in the water is great resistance training. You’re going to get a workout if you just walk, you won’t believe it, ”said Morehouse.

The program is only available to members of the Y The YMCA also offers discounts up to $ 25 on personal fitness sessions. The “New You in 2022” program started on January 3rd and runs until January 31st. It is $ 30 to sign up and you will receive a free t-shirt at the end of the month.
