Andy Murray is determined to be ready for Queen’s and Wimbledon after deciding not to attend the Nottingham Open next week.

The former world number one was slated for the grass court event in the East Midlands but has chosen to focus on building his fitness rather than suffering an alleged setback in his recovery from the groin injury that hampered his return to the tour.

Murray picked up on the issue ahead of the Miami Open in March and was slated to make a late comeback at the French Open, but decided to skip Roland Garros after suffering further ailments.

The 34-year-old Brit trained at Wimbledon this week and would now like to intensify his preparation for the start of the Queen on June 12th.

Last month he admitted he was frustrated with the stop-start nature of his attempt to make a successful and sustained comeback from the two hip surgeries that threatened to end his career.

“When I got the metal hip, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy,” said Murray. “There’s just … sometimes I didn’t expect it to be like that.”

Murray has only played three-tour singles matches since October last year, but recently played two doubles matches with Liam Brady at the Rome Masters.
