Australia’s test captain Tim Paine will undergo surgery to repair a pinched nerve in his neck in order to be ready for the upcoming Ashes streak.
Paine has discomfort in his neck and left arm due to a bulging disc that has restricted his exercise intensity and has not responded to previous attempts at treatment.
A spinal surgeon at a consultation last week recommended surgery to relieve the nerve, which will take place on Tuesday. Paine hopes to get back to training later this month.
“The spine surgeon and the Cricket Australia medical team agreed that the operation will be done now, which gives plenty of time to fully prepare for the summer,” said Paine. The first ash test should be on December 8th.
“I assume that I will be able to start physical activity again by the end of this month and will be able to fully train again in October. I’ll be ready to take the first test and I’m really looking forward to a great summer. “
