Don’t have enough time for the gym? Can’t afford it? The solution comes, says the director of the marathon park Anthony Paul Davis, in the form of the new fitness court of the National Fitness Campaign (NFC). This court has a similar function to the fitness course in Oceanfront Park, but with a new design and style. While the final layout has not yet been finalized, the court will most likely include multi-level stations like a core area, pull-up bars, an agility course, and a host of other options that come loaded with a free smartphone app with detailed workouts and exercise ideas.
Davis said he has been concerned about the health and well-being of his community for some time, especially during this disruptive pandemic era. The new fitness court is designed for people of all ages, every ability and ability with a full body workout. “If you can’t afford a gym or can’t walk for some reason, this new space just gives you the opportunity to do something on your own time frame and budget. We’re giving the community an all-access pass for free so they can get fit at their own pace, ”said Davis.
Davis attributes the idea to one of his co-workers in the city’s parks and leisure department. Thanks to a $ 30,000 grant from NFC, the total cost of the court will be approximately $ 110,000.

<p>As a former high school football coach, Davis understands both the importance of personal fitness and the difficulty of committing to exercise. The new fitness pad, slated to be built where the skate park is currently located, will provide a place to stock up on some vitamin D while building a healthier lifestyle. Visible from the street, the square’s curved backdrop can showcase everything from local advertisements to public art and serve as a reminder to take action. </p>
<p>“One of our main goals here in the parks is to get everyone to be as active as possible,” said Davis. “This place … local gyms can use it, schools can use it, everyone can use it. It’s a wake-up call for everyone; If you do sports, I promise you that it will improve your life. ” </p>
<p>The City of Marathon, including Davis, has also partnered with the Marathon Rotary Club and the Tony Hawk Foundation for a grant to create a brand new, state-of-the-art skate park that has space for children and teenagers, adults of all skill levels to hang out while they play to become active. In addition to these already ambitious projects, Davis plans to install new playground equipment, refurbished play areas and possibly a second fitness pad in Rotary Park. </p>
