Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has been hospitalized with a head injury after being carted off the field in the third quarter of Denver’s 15:10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Bridgewater was injured in a frightening collision that also sent Bengal linebacker Joe Bachie out of the game with a leg injury.

Bridgewater had movement in his extremities and trainer Vic Fangio said he would be held overnight for observation but was expected to be fine.

Denver was left behind, 9-3, 5:34 in the third quarter as Bridgewater scrambled right off their 30-yard line in 2nd and 5th place. Bachie came over and crouched down as he was about to make contact.

They collided and Bridgewater blew up, landing a yard behind the first down marker, but fell on his face when he was hit again by defensive tackle BJ Hill.

Bridgewater lay motionless when Bachie rolled onto his back a few yards away. Concerned players from both teams gathered on the pitch.

Defending champions Tampa Bay lost several key players in a 9-0 defeat by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night.

The list included wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans and running back Leonard Fournette.

Godwin (knee) and Evans (thigh) left in the second quarter. Fournette (thigh muscles) got out in the third.

Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David also left after a foot injury.

“It hurts even more to lose all the players we lost,” said coach Bruce Arians. “We lost about seven starters in this game.”

Carolina kicker Zane Gonzalez had to be helped off the field after injuring his quadriceps in warm up.

Gonzalez was injured about an hour before kick-off, and the Panthers essentially held trial sessions soon after to see if someone could replace him. Receiver Brandon Zylstra, training team running back Reggie Bonnafon and linebacker Frankie Luvu practiced field goal attempts. Zylstra took over for the kickoffs, but no one took a placekick.

The Panthers skipped a field goal attempt and failed to convert fourth and 9 of Buffalo’s 24 to end their second possession. They picked 2 after their two touchdowns and converted once.

New York Jets Safety Elijah Riley was taken off the field on a backboard after injuring himself in a 31:24 loss to the Miami Dolphins in the third quarter. Riley injured his neck in a collision with teammate Kyle Phillips.

Riley’s head was stabilized before being carted off the field. He seemed to be raising his right arm skyward as the Jets and Dolphins players came to his side to say a kind word.

New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard is ready for the season after tearing his left achilles tendon in a late 21-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Jacksonville Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins broke his right ankle trying to tackle Tremon Smith’s 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in a 30-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Jenkins was placed in the air force and carted off the field in the first quarter. His season is probably over.

The defensive end of the San Francisco 49ers, Nick Bosa, briefly left the team with a head injury but was released to return. In the 31:13 win against the Atlanta Falcons, he had a sack in the first drive of the second half.

Other players injured on Sunday were Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams (shoulder); Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson (neck); Titans wide receiver Julio Jones (hamstring), Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth (shock log); Cardinals defensive end Jordan Phillips (knee) and wide receiver Rondale Moore (ankle); Lions linebackers Alex Anzalone (shoulder) and Josh Woods (shoulder); and Giants running back Gary Brightwell (neck).
