Fitness is an integral part of life every day. But a recent pandemic and global lockdowns have put the health and fitness of countless people at risk. Fortunately, online fitness trainers have proven themselves to be fitness saviors during these test times. In Canada, Tish Duffy is one such brilliant name.

Tish has been spreading the fitness mantra among people for over two decades – now she has expanded the reach with her online specials. Here you can find out more about the experienced fitness trainer, her career and what makes fitness so special for her.

The life of Tish Duffy

Tish Duffy was born in Calgary, a city in Alberta, Canada. She thinks she is a Calgarian through and through. She was fascinated by fitness from a young age. Raised in the cold mountains of Calgary, extreme physical activity was a part of life. Her parents had a huge impact on instilling Tish’s passion for fitness from an early age. No wonder she embarked on a phenomenal career in the field.

Today Tish lives in Calgary with her husband and four furry family members. She is also active in her community and believes in giving back to society. Most notably, she has run many stress relief bootcamps at the Sheldon Kenney Child Advocacy Center (now known as the Calgary & Area Child Advocacy Center). She also appears regularly at children’s and women’s events to talk about fitness and her inspiring journey.

Experience speaks

Online training is not a new phenomenon, but it has seen a rapid boom since 2020. The biggest concern with online training is the trainer himself; or to be more precise, to find a trainer who knows his way around. Well it doesn’t get any better than Tish Duffy.

Tish has over 25 years of experience in the fitness world. She has a degree in kinesiology from the University of Calgary – something that immediately sets her apart from many gym brothers who offer fitness classes online. But Tish isn’t just a nerd; she has been giving the speech all her life.

Over the years, Tish has trained professional hockey players, motorcross athletes, and racing drivers. She could have been happy with this high profile clientele, but Tish wanted to help more people. She also has extensive experience in fitness competitions, marathons and adventure races. She is a spin and HIIT trainer, but also has boxing experience and teaches them to her clients.

No wonder she is considered one of the most renowned trainers in Canada. She was named to Impact Magazine’s list of Canada’s Top Instructors twice – in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, she was named Trainer of the Year by Muscle Insider. Needless to say, Tish Duffy is as legitimate as it gets.

As Tish Duffy understands fitness

Dedicated a lifetime to fitness is sure to bring you some valuable fitness insights. For Tish Duffy, fitness is one of the pillars on which a meaningful life could stand. Her “Train With Tish” brand was about spreading this idea. Their exercise programs combine strength training with diet and lifestyle goals. The comprehensive programs are designed to offer a more holistic view of health and fitness.

Coming from the mountainous regions of western Canada, Tish has always been fascinated by outdoor activities rather than indoor workouts. In this way, she motivates her customers time and again to try out outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing. Fitness alone is great, but fitness combined with adventure and closeness to nature is even better.

In a recent podcast, Tish revealed the AZ journey of online fitness. The journey starts with finding the right customer – someone you can trust. In Tish’s experience, most clients come with their own baggage of limiting beliefs and myths about fitness. As a trainer, it is her job to resolve them without the client feeling ignorant. Another goal of Tish is to make fitness a healthy, lifelong journey instead of being something temporary. As such, she focuses on the non-aesthetic benefits of her exercise program as well as the long-term benefits.

Training for women

Tish Duffy places particular emphasis on the training of bitches. She finds that many women are still hesitant about fitness, largely due to personal inhibitions and the myths surrounding the fitness world. That’s why Tish launched their Strong Bodies program to help women get started on the fitness journey. The program consists of quick 30-45-minute sessions three times a week – easy to use and sufficient at the same time.

Tish is a strong advocate of strength training for women. She says strength training can actually promote weight loss and cardiovascular health better than cardio exercise. At the same time, strength training also improves muscle and bone strength – something women over 40 definitely need.
