GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – If you are dealing with muscle weakness or bone loss and are over the age of 50, there is a course specially designed for you.
The class is called Live Stronger. It was created and trained by physical therapists from Live Well Physical Therapy and performed at the Feel Fit Health and Fitness Club on Grand Island.
Live Strong’s program coordinator Nicole Thompson said they came up with the idea to fill that niche after discovering that there was a lack of space for people after prescribed physical therapy ended.
Thompson said there was this perception that you can’t exercise as you get older, and she said it just wasn’t true.
“We’re starting to see what you can accomplish with one repetition. And on the one hand we see that they are much stronger than they think they can be. If we actually put them to the test, they can lift a lot of weight and are really good with good technique. But we saw some tremendous strength gains just in this period. That’s really cool, ”said Thompson.
Steven Miles, a Live Stronger member, said the course changed his life.
“I’ve gained total flexibility and people tell me I walk better, I turn better, I bend better and I move a lot better,” he said.
Miles encourages others to consider taking the course as the instructors create a customized training plan for them.
“You don’t have to do things to the utmost, so everyone’s done on an individual basis, which is nice, it keeps people active, it keeps your heart rate up,” Miles said. “It keeps you moving all the time.”
The course is a member’s course and meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Feel Fit on Grand Island.
