As we usher in 2022, many people have their New Year’s resolutions, and fitness is often on that list.

“Everyone starts the new year with the intention of improving themselves and making this year better than the last,” said Andrew Held, fitness manager at Genesis Health Clubs.

He said there is usually an increase in the number of people signing up for membership around the new year and more people showing up in January. During the first three months of the year, he says their gyms are usually the busiest.

One piece of advice he has is to set challenging goals and break them down into smaller tasks.

“You want to make sure that frequency is more important than intensity when you first start,” he said.

He adds that little things can motivate you to hit the gym.

“Put your tennis shoes on your car seat so you can’t ignore them on your way home, or put your gym bag right next to your desk at work so you can grab them on your way out.”

Even if you miss a workout, he doesn’t want people to stick with their fitness journey.

“This is where these support systems really come in and help the most because even when you are done with yourself, other people are there to lift you up and get you back on track,” said Held.

Genesis Health Clubs have personal trainers to help people achieve their fitness goals. You can find more information about this on their website.
