Native Health Coach Leads ‘Corona Walks’ Round Baltimore Throughout Pandemic – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – It’s light and early – 7:30 a.m. on the corner of Sisson and 27th at the height of the pandemic. You’d think it was 4 p.m., it’s so loud.

An Earth Wind & Fire album roars as hikers in sweatshirts and hoodies pass the entrance. You did this for 52 weeks in a row.

Chauncey Whitehead, dressed in all black matching overalls, leads the way. He is a local fitness trainer who leads the way through Druid Hill Park for “The Corona Walk”.

“Set up your GPS and monitors – whatever you have,” he yells on a megaphone.

“I decided to get out of here and go because like everyone else I was confused,” he said.

Everyone was. Some still are.

“The next thing you know, a couple of people came up to me and it became a mandatory Sunday stress walk.”

Three miles. You are still here, 50 hikers deep.

“Gyms closed. He brought the gym here, ”says one of them.

“Mile 1 Shareen, let’s go!” can be heard in the distance at the beginning of the walk. But why? For unity.

“If you go you will get to know your neighbors. My mantra is a community that goes together and has conversations with one another, ”he said.

A half marathon and a year later, the steps don’t stop anytime soon.

“I plan to continue doing this until I can no longer walk,” said Whitehead.
