NEW DELHI: The unexpected three-week hiatus gave India’s top cricketers much-needed rest, and the hotel’s quarantine period has been well used to tackle the fitness areas otherwise untouched during a season, said Soham Desai, strength and conditioning coach (S & C) the team Monday.
Desai and New Zealander Nick Webb are the men’s team’s two S&C coaches. You are responsible for getting the team on top form ahead of the Marquee World Cup finals in Southampton on June 18th.
“Nick and I both feel we benefited from the void we had for the boys to rest. They had a long year – from the last IPL to this one,” Desai told BCCI.tv.

Desai said they asked all of India’s top stars to “rest and take time out, stay with the family and relax” before returning to training.
The team will leave for the UK on Wednesday evening and is currently slowly building on the tour with moderate to high-intensity training.
“It took them three weeks to get a training that ideally they couldn’t do because of skill (practice) and constant participation,” said Desai, the man who has worked tremendously with Mohammed Siraj since his days in India has said.
“Slowly we started to align them with what they actually need to do and where we think they need to work on these aspects during the season. So we filled these folders for them.”
Desai was grateful that the BCCI had set up spacious hotel rooms where they could use maximum strength training equipment during the seven days of harsh quarantine.
“We are grateful to the BCCI for giving us this property, which had balconies and outdoor areas to stretch out and work in, and put a good amount of weights in their rooms so they could do their workouts,” Desai explained Furthermore.
“The idea during this time was to address the areas of their weaknesses and areas that they need to work on. On the 7th, 8th and 9th day they did individual training sessions,” he informed.
“They (players) only trained on their own and it was at the gym so they had access to treadmills and access to few areas to run and do their exercises and do some bowling,” Desai said as the one Website uploaded a video of Jasprit Bumrah, the spearhead of pace, rolled his arm around and played bowling.
“I think we have ticked a lot of boxes and we are in a very good environment at the moment,” concluded Desai.
