Do you have extra space in your heart and family for a few workout buddies looking to make their home forever? Look no further to the Helen Woodward Animal Center, where a few pets are waiting to be adopted.
Nalani, the 5-year-old collie / corgi mix, and Sebastian, the 5-year-old house short hair, are both roughly twice their ideal weights. The couple are available for adoption and the shelter hopes that a loving family can welcome them to their homes and maintain a fitness routine for them so they can live their best lives.
Both pets were rescued after wandering the streets in different areas.
Nalani, who weighs 74 pounds, has been living with a foster family while she is waiting for someone to adopt her. To get the pooch back in shape, her keepers took swimming lessons and took her on daily walks to improve her stamina. At this point, Nalani’s weight is such a challenge that she is carted to medical appointments.

Sebastian, on the other hand – or Paw – weighs 25 pounds and, like Nalani, has difficulty because of his weight. Both of them find it difficult to get up, walk long distances and climb stairs. According to the shelter, nobody can move comfortably.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center describes both animals as “great, lovable with loving personalities”.

Sebastian, the 5 year old Shorthair, seems to have intense eyes, but only because they are full of love.
“They love to play and explore and rise next to their owners,” Angelica Otero, the shelter’s health manager, said in a statement. “Nalani and Sebastian both look sad to find that they can’t say hello to new people because they can’t get up.”
Both pets are well on their way to starting their weight loss with a special diet and exercise. Nalani is available for adoption now and Sebastian will be available soon, according to the animal center.
Anyone interested in adopting one (or even both) pets are encouraged to visit the Helen Woodward Animal Center online or contact them at (858) 756-4117 x 313.
