There is a lot to learn when it comes to gluten! Especially for those of us who are feeling pretty awful after consuming this ingredient.

What is gluten Gluten is a term for “the proteins contained in wheat (wheat berries, durum wheat, emmer, semolina, spelled, farina, farro, graham, KAMUT® Khorasan wheat and einkorn), rye, barley and triticale – a cross between wheat and rye. “It’s the main ingredient that gives shape to bread and basically holds all types of foods together.

This is why gluten is found in a wide variety of foods – from condiments to baked goods to snacks – making it even more difficult for people to avoid.

When it comes to eating gluten, some people are completely fine and others take a trip to the doctor. There are a few different types of gluten reactions including gluten sensitivity, gluten intolerance, and even an autoimmune disease called celiac disease. Whether you’re having a full blown allergic reaction or gluten is simply bloating and uncomfortable, it’s often best to cut down on the ingredient or avoid it.

That doesn’t mean you have to drop your favorite gluten-rich recipes! Just make smart gluten-free swaps like spiraling pumpkin, use almond and coconut flour, opt for lentils or quinoa, and even make your own condiments. When choosing a gluten-free baking ingredient like flour or oats, make sure the product has been processed in a gluten-free facility to ensure you are not consuming gluten.

Here are some recipes that can be easily made gluten-free!
