FORT COLLINS – Crunch Fitness is opening its newest Front Range franchise locations in Fort Collins on Friday.

The $ 15 million 40,000 square foot facility owned by Brian Hibbard and John Armatas is located at 2211 S. College Ave.

The gym, which offers discounted introductory memberships, is open 24 hours a day.

“We look forward to bringing the exciting and inclusive crunch workout experience to Fort Collins,” said Hibbard in a prepared statement. “With world-class equipment and fantastic classes, there is definitely something for everyone at Crunch, and we can’t wait to help Fort Collins residents achieve their fitness goals.”

There are crunch gyms in Boulder, Colorado Springs, and in several cities in the Denver area.

The Fort Collins Crunch replaces the Miramont Lifestyle Fitness Central, which closed in 2018.

Founded in the 1970s, Miramont Lifestyle Fitness was a Fort Collins-based health club chain with more than 20,000 members as of 2017.

That year, founder Cliff Buchholz sold the chain to Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita, Kansas. At the time, the company operated 44 health clubs in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Colorado.

The transaction, which allowed the gyms to retain their Miramont branding, included three Miramont fitness clubs in Fort Collins, including the College Avenue location, and Reve Fitness on Jessup Farm. Genesis also operates the Fort Collins Club and another health club in Loveland.

The Fort Collins health club scene has seen its share of new additions to the market since the Miramont-Genesis deal in 2017.

New clubs that have opened in the past half a decade include Anytime Fitness on College Avenue, 24-Hour Fitness on College Avenue, and Zone Athletic on Council Tree Avenue. The 24-hour gym has since been closed after the company filed for bankruptcy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
